[net.travel] skiing in switzerland

wessma@uofm-cv.UUCP (Prof. Wayne Stark) (01/08/85)

I am thinking about a vacation next Christmas in Switzerland. I would also
like to go skiing when there.. I have heard somewhere about certain places
where one can start skiing at one place in the morning and possibly by
taking several different lifts end up quite a distance from the starting spot
in the evening. Does anyone out there know of such places in Switzerland
or Germany or know where I could find out about such. I'll be going with
family and would also be interested in knowing aabout good scenic nontouristic
places to stay. Thanks in advance.

I don't know where you can ski like you described, but I can point you to
some fun places to ski in Suissa.

Look at the Jan issue of Powder magazine for a wild description of
"gelande" (?) (off-piste) skiing. It may be what you're looking for (even
though the article talks about austria.

1. Go to Zermatt. The Materhorn (sp?) if nice to look at and the skiing is
fun. The town has lots of character - no cars.

2. I like Arosa because it's not real big and has huge open areas. (only 1-2
good bars in town, however).

3. Do not miss Chamonix in france. Wildest skiing party town in the
alps. Also some fantastic skiing in and around the area. You won't be
dissapointed.

Hey - these are my favorites. I've never been to St. Moritz (not yet) or
Val'd whats-its-name (were Jean-claude is from).

Have fun!

I am interested in any information that could be sent to
me on skiing in Switzerland. Can anyone send me any information on
a trip they took? Is it possible to ski all year round, and if not
what are the best months to go.

Any and all information will be deeply apreciated

thanks
