[comp.sys.amiga.games] Making a PowerMonger backup

davids@cup.portal.com (David Kenneth Schreiber) (03/27/91)

I recently bought PowerMonger for my A3000, and haven't been able to
make a working backup copy of the game. The duplicate I make (using
DiskCopy, as the Command Summary Card states), will get to the opening
music/castle picture without a hitch and continue reading stuff off the
disk after I click on the left mouse button. After reading ~8 tracks
of data, however, the game will freeze. If I use the original PowerMonger
disk, the game will continue on past this point and into normal play.
Has anyone else had this problem, and can anyone suggest a solution?
Thanks.

(BTW, I'm running the game under 1.3 at all times).

I've received several replies to my question about making a backup
of the PowerMonger master disk. One person told me that I needed a
disk copier with "Index Sync." More specifically, I was told that
Marauder II and Project D should do the trick. Another person told me
that the freely-distributable program PCopy (on fish disk #402) will also
make a working copy of PowerMonger.

I don't have either of the two commerical products, or a second floppy
drive (which PCopy requires), so I can't vouch for any of these solutions.
Nevertheless, thanks to everyone that responded.

ANY disk copier (execpt diskcopy perhaps) will do a backup of powermonger in
normal mode. If you don't have a second drive, DFC (fish disk 447) will copy it
with only one drive...
