[comp.sys.amiga.games] Lemmings and poor programming practices

student@covax.co.iup.edu (student) (04/03/91)

I've been reading all these ravings about Lemmings for some time now,
and finally decided to give the game a try. Well, when I looked at the
piddly little animated figures, 16-color low-res EGA-like graphics, and
the namby-pamby intro, I wondered if I was using my Amiga or my cheap
PC clone. Why do programmers continue to port ST source to the Amiga
without thinking? Why can't they at least get the scrolling smooth, for
crying outloud?! If I had programmed this game on my 64, you better
believe that the scrolling would be smooth. Even the graphics and
animation would probably be better.
Imagine if the graphics/animation in Lemmings were as good as in,
say, Shadow of the Beast? And if the intro was as smooth as in, say,
Awesome? Wouldn't the game be so much more enjoyable? Why did DMA
Design have to spoil this game by giving it that odious EGA look and
feel!? It's utterly pathetic! Does this game use any of the hardware
that sets the Amiga apart from other PC's?

They make PC like because they make the most money out of it...
And if you dont want PC port (or alike) dont buy those games.
A port can be done in 3 month or 3 days! An original game 1 year or so.

But if the game if fun it should matter to mutch?
