[comp.sys.amiga.games] F/A-18 Interceptor

I'm posting this on behalf of someone who can't post directly to

Greg,
You talk about doing crazy things with F-18. I have also noticed other
posts to CSAG about neat things to do with F-18. Well, I cannot post to
CSAG, everything I send goes to CSA and I get mild flames that I should
post to games and not the general Amiga area. Anyway, if you choose to
forward this to CSAG, here is something I have not seen posted.
On the last mission, I always launch low off the carrier and fly straight
and level at about 40 feet off the water. The migs come in at about 2000
to 4000 feet. I lock onto them when they are almost overhead and fire
missles at the two (usually). They almost never know what has hit them.
It is almost a cheat. ;')

I'll have to try it out. Neat idea.

I've spent hours doing weird stuff like this. If any of you have a 4-head
VCR and color composite out (b&w will do.. bleah) you might want to check
this out. I hooked my 2000 with my A520 to my VCR, cranked up F18 and hit
record (SP). Do a mission or two, wax a few MIGs, do some neato BCMs with
the outside view, etc.. Now rewind the tape and watch it in fast frame
mode. Wow! All of a sudden the animation is real smooth (looks like 30fps)!
It's pretty incredible looking. Don't use the fast-forward(cue), my VCR has
frame, slow and quick playback speeds, use quick (or equiv).

I love this F18 thread. It's a testament to the programmers that people
still use this marvelous simulator despite it's lack of depth
(no mission/scenery disks, ground targets, more realistic ceiling, head to
head mode, ordinance selection, etc..). While Falcon offers all the things
missing from F18, I just never warmed up to it. I don't like the way it
flies, SAMs and the horrid CAT III implementation suck (in real life you CAN
fly inverted with a CAT III load, AND centerline stores, like my good
friend the ALQ-131). I find it pretty impossible to fly the tougher
missions at high ranks since you need a miracle to dodge SAMs without an
ALQ-131 and MIGs can't be shaken w/o inverted flight, pretty unforgiving
catch-22.

I sure wish EOA would get on the ball here. Considering the initial
success of F18, I can't see a follow-up or expansion being anything short
of a sure thing (sales wise). Waaaaa..

After a long time, I decided to dig out good 'ole F/A-18 Interceptor
and give it another try. Unfortunately, the manual seems to have been
misplaced. Anyways, I have run into one snag on the third mission. What
key on the keyboard drops the rescue supplies (or whatever it is!) to the
downed pilot on the island? Any help would be appreciated. Please E-Mail.
