WHOOPS! I screwed up the attributions on this before. This is a repost. While I'm still not exactly flattering towards Mr. Moore, he at least deserved to not get mixed up with Mr. Webb. My sincere apologies. Corrected repost follows (original has been cancelled). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ >In article <2939@kirk.nmg.bu.oz.au>, webbc@kirk.nmg.bu.oz.au (Chris Webb) writes: [ Useless, uninformed junk ] In article <3727@ux.acs.umn.edu> mmoore@ux.acs.umn.edu (Malcolm Diallo Moore) writes: [ Useless (although more informed) junk the Amigoids already know ] Sigh. Gentlemen (and ladies), the "my machine is wonderful, your machine sucks" battle has been going on since AT LEAST seven years ago, when I used my Commodore 64 in high school. It can not be stopped, I fear. So.... At least put it in the appropriate newsgroup. If you are going to be discussing the Amiga in your posts and comparing it to any other machine, the appropriate group is comp.sys.amiga.advocacy. Indeed, followups to this message are redirected there. This way, people who don't want to read this tiresome stuff don't have to. Alternatively, those who get off on it can always find it. Actually, if somebody posts something REALLY ignorant (as what recently happened), it is not a good idea to post, since several other people are probably going to do it, too. A better response is to send private electronic mail to the person who put up the post. Politely inform him (or her) that he (or she) is dead wrong. You might even suggest that he (or she) cancel the post so that the annoying messages he (or she) keeps getting in the mail will stop. This is what I did. Also, some folks tend to post inflammatory messages on purpose, just to watch the users work themselves into a frenzy. If you go nuts, you are just playing into their hands. It's much better to give a calm reasoned response, and preferably by private e-mail. If you simply MUST post something to perpetuate the problem, remember to re-direct followups to comp.sys.amiga.advocacy. If any of the other micro groups come up with their own .advocacy groups, you can use one of those (It should happen, since .advocacy works so well for the Amiga groups). The way to do this is to put a line in the header of your message like: Followup-To: comp.sys.amiga.advocacy Dan Zerkle zerkle@iris.eecs.ucdavis.edu (916) 754-0240 Amiga... Because life is too short for boring computers. Dan Zerkle zerkle@iris.eecs.ucdavis.edu (916) 754-0240 Amiga... Because life is too short for boring computers.
