I had a problem with StarControl. Version 1.0 worked fine.
However, version 1.1 would boot up, but when it was time for combat (in
practice mode, or elsewhere) it would say insert disk 2 in any drive,
you'd do it, and it would spin the disk then say insert disk 2 in any
drive. If the game was installed on a hard disk, it would just hang.

I noticed that disk 2 had entirely different files on it between ver 1.0
and ver 1.1. (it may have been ver 1.1 and 1.2, but it was the later
version that was screwed up.) I wonder if there was some production
problem and a disk 2 from some other game was included.

Perhaps KING has a star control disk 2? (does KING come with more than one
disk?) Anyway I dont have star control now as a result (tried prev version
in store to see if it worked when I took mine back) because I want to
know whats different/fixed in the later version and now am waiting for
v 1.2 (or 1.3) to fix the disk 2 problem.

It worked fine under 2.0 on 3000 up until the disk 2 prob. (yea for games
that work on 2.0!)

Now was that civilized? No, clearly not. Fun, but in no sense civilized.

Accolade has excellent policies regarding its custommers. Not only are
the products continuously updated, but should your copy of a game not
run, you will be sent a free update. Just call or write them. The address
and phone numbers are in the manual.

The latest version is 1.2. One point to note, Star Control really likes
chip memory. If your machine has only 512K of chip memory, close down
unecessary windows on your workbench screen. If that does not work, call
custommer support.

>(does KING come with more than one disk?)

Search for the King comes on five disks! Megabytes to enjoy.

Search for the King now runs on my 2000. Turns out the problem was so
tiny and so obscure......

You see, I had a little digital clock running in my title bar, as part of my
startup sequence. Take out the clock, the game runs. Include clock, game
crashes. We arrived at this after talking to a guy at Accolade AND to the
programmer of the actual game. At first, we were blaming it on a screen
blanker, or ImageFinder, or the fact that Les Manley just plain hated me.

Anyway, I finished the game, re-installed clock and all is well.
