I wonder if anyone would have information about the yearly Stampede in Calgary? I understand that it takes place in the Fall and it's a REAL party! Also, there's another yearly event in Edmundton called Rodeo days (?) or *something* days that happens around the same timeframe. I'd be grateful if any friends on the net could take a moment to relate any experiences, dates, events or whatever concerning these celebrations! The two events that you refer to are the "Calgary Stampede" and Edmontons "Klondike Days". Both are local festivals that run from about the first week in July to the end of July. The Calgary Stampede has the Rodeo as its theme and if you've never seen grown men wrestle with cattle it might be interesting (Calgarians always were a strange bunch :-). Edmontons theme is the period of time around the 1800's gold rush. Both events are similar in some respects, as they center around a large fair and have numerous other small events happening around the cities. There is a Casino on the fair grounds and around town (if you're into gambling) and dances, bands etc. Klondike days starts a day or two after the Stampede ends so there is no problem with catching both events. There are also other events in Edmonton during this time period such as a 3 day folk festival in early August and the "Fringe" theater festival. The Fringe might interest you, it consists of dozens of plays given by amateur (and occationaly good :-) actors accompanied by street dances and other strange (and hard to describe activities). It takes place in early July (approx. the first ten days). It is a pretty good exhibition (the Stampede is also quite good if you like chuckwagon races and bucking bronco type things). P.S. 'Edmundton' is actually spelled 'Edmonton'. P.P.S. The weather here in July is usually fairly decent (anywhere between 60 and 80 Farenheit).

Thats spelled "Edmonton" (see above) and it's called Klondike days, about July 11 for 2 weeks. No big deal. The Stampede is a real party. If you can toss a cow-chip, come on up and party...
