[comp.sys.amiga.games] Empire 2.2w

LDSHANER@MTUS5.BITNET (Leon D. Shaner) (10/24/90)

I don't know who posted it, but Empire 2.2w is at 128.155.23.64 (abcfd20...)

I've got it running and it has been improved immensely in my eyes... I had to
take 2.1w down for the last couple of weeks because the server kept choking
when it lost track of things (usually due to a system crash without Empire's
buffers having been flushed)...

The new version supports automatic buffer flushing and even has database
verification/correction routines...

Has anyone out there set up Empire 2.2w (the PD game) as a host game
system? I was wondering how well the system works with multiple players
on-line at the same time? Anyone know if it works on the 3000 under 2.0?
I looks like it could be a really fun game with enough people and I would
like some opinions on how well the game plays. Thanx in advance.

I've had some problems with Empire 2.2w, that I'd like
to hear a solution to.

I've set up a game where maximum allowed minutes to play
each day is 1440, i.e. the whole day. Anyway I get thrown
out after less than 30 seconds of logon time. I've found out
that the problem is caused by the way the program reads the
system clock. When I log in the time is for instance 20:00:00,
but when I am thrown out because I've spent my time (1 day)
30 seconds later, the time is perhaps 19:59:51 (the same day).
The time goes backwards !! It's not a problem with my battery
backed up clock, I already checked that.

I think you'll find that Empire 2.2w also has problems with other
time/date related functions... I went home over break and took
the game down. When I returned, the new year had come and the game
looked at the last time players had updated as having occured in
December and now it was January... Ignoring the year, the game saw
that as negative time flow and so the couple of weeks worth of update
time periods were scrapped and it was just as if time had actually
stopped. Not too pleasing to most of my users who had set up all sorts
of new sectors and delivery patterns expecting their countries to be
well fortified when they returned...

ch@heike.uucp (Carsten Heyl) (05/02/91)

Hello Gamers, :-)

I hope somebodyn can help me with the following problem.
Me and some friends want to play Empire (last Version 2.2w fom ab20 )
online with serveral persons. My Amiga only has one serial port and
since we are connected via a self-build serial-bus-network we want
to connect our Programs to the Empire-Server.
So we are highly (could I say so ? :-) interested in the source of
Empire (Version 2.1w or 2.2w), especially we need the Source or Doc
how to connect to the Empire-Server and how to write a serial-Empire
server !

I hope this letter is read by anyone feeling responsible.
As I know these Empire Versions are written/adapted by Dave Wright
but there was no email-address given and a normal 'letter' would be
the last chance.

Any help available,
	thanks in advance,
		Carsten

Please Contact me directly as I have not the time to read
*.games all the time.
If there are constructive answers, i will collect them and send them
