This time I hope EOB is a direct port from the IBM. I finished EOB on friend's IBM and it was extremely well done. Best use of VGA grfx and sound card yet. I only hope the Amiga version is as good. If they use the blitter, hopefully they'll be able to add effects to the Amiga version that they left out on the IBM -- smooth scrolling doors instead of click open - click close ones, and allow you to move freely while you're shooting a spell down the hall (on the IBM, you have to stand still and watch the anim of your spell shoot down the hall). My Comparison of EOB and DM: In some euromag, EOB was compared to DM and rated higher. I loved DM and CSB (finished DM 3 times) I liked them about the same. EOB had way better graphics ( only because they had 256 colors ) . EOB monsters were a little more interesting. All were taken from D&D and copied well (ie the Mind Flayer actually turns invisible sometimes, and it paralyzed your party. The devourer actually eats armor and weapons. Spells better animated -- neat special effects throughought the game. Plot twist=good: you can meet a character and go on a sub-quest. And another character sits in a corner and heals your party sometimes. D&D rules == same classes and alignments as true D&D, same sort of spell and level enhancements (which I thought was bad) Couldn't slam monsters between doors. No really neat traps or puzzles. Hard to heal your party -- only wimply potions available -- you have to sleep all the time. About 5-6 diffent graphics sets of walls -- all very well done. Game was too easy - solved it in about 14 hrs of play. Although I skipped a lot of stuff probably. Walls too monotonous and vision too restricted. You can't see very far -- although you can actually see as many squares as you can in DM, it feels like you can only see right in front of you. Barbie doll interface for characters is same. You can be looking at a character's inventory AND walk around in the dungeon at the same time since they use separate halves of the screen. Really well done. Can pick up extra characters in EOB for a total of 6. Unfortunately there's only a couple of characters you can do this with in the whole game -- and walk up and ask you to join. It's not like Bard's Tale where you can just snag just about anone or anything and have them join. It is nice to have the extra help, though. No blue fields in EOB -- just pits, buttons, levers, wall inlets, etc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jason Freund freund@sakura.ucdavis.edu // 1420 Lake Blvd #14 916-753-8677 // Amiga 3000 Davis, CA 95616 Computer Science, Engineering \\ // --------------------------------------------------------------\X/-------------- while (!deadyet) { Getup(); Gotowork(); }

[ I played through DM and Chaos Strikes back on the Amiga, I have played almost through Eye of the Beholder on the Amiga and have played Eye on the PC (a 33 Mhz 80386) Comparing Eye on my A3000/25 to the 386 33mhz PC version Graphics on Amiga version are almost as good, not quite but very close. Sound on Amiga version is EXCELLENT. Speed is better on the amiga version and no annoying wait while spell is animated, there is a wait on the PC version. Comparing DM and CSB to Eye Eye has better gameplay and I like its rules better Eye has better graphics and better sound Eye is shorter and not as challenging, but it is a beginning scenario Eye is HD installable runs under 2.0x and on the A3000 works fine. I stongly recommend this fine port of a fine product, for all Amiga users. It is a lot of fun. -Roger UUCP: {hplabs!hp-sdd ucsd nosc}!crash!pnet01!uzun ARPA: crash!pnet01!uzun@nosc.mil INET: uzun@pnet01.cts.com
