Dateline, Portland Oregon -- BN BREAKS UP THE SCENE BN has recently unbuilt the Hoyt Street yard office, and the stalls and shop areas of the Hoyt Street roundhouse. The office portion of the roundhouse and the outside turntable remain (for the time being, at least). The brick roundhouse had in recent years been used only for light servicing and deadline preparation, with the Vancouver (Washington) yard providing all major servicing for Oregon and southwest Washington units. However, the Hoyt St roundhouse had regularly turned power from the Astoria, Oregon Trunk (Bend and connection to Western Pacific), and Oregon Electric (The Willamette Valley). Railfans were able to see Western Pacific units on pool service, pre-merger Frisco units (on lease), and all the pretty F units (before deadlined), and even the rare F45's. Also in BN news: units in the 1800-1900 series are now being deadlined. These are among the last first generation hood units on BN. This recession is really killing us diesel spotters!
