Apple USA Announces Reduced Prices for Logic Board Upgrades and
Memory Expansion Kits

SAN JOSE, California--May 13, 1991--In conjunction with the
introduction of its new version of the Macintosh computer operating
system, System 7, Apple Computer, Inc.'s USA division today announced
it will significantly drop the price of logic board upgrades and
memory for its Macintosh computers. In the U.S., the price cuts --
up to 41 percent for logic board upgrades and up to 57 percent for
memory kits -- are aimed at Macintosh personal computer customers who
want to take full advantage of the new robust memory capabilities of
System 7.
The price reductions cover logic board upgrades for almost all
Macintosh personal computers (Macintosh SE, Macintosh II, Macintosh
IIcx, Macintosh IIx). For example, customers who purchased a
Macintosh II system in 1987 can upgrade to Apple's highest
performance CPU -- the Macintosh IIfx.
"We think these cuts make a great story about our commitment to our
installed base. We are making the migration path for our existing
customers even better," said Robert Puette, president of Apple USA.
"These pricing actions -- combined with the ease-of-use and more
powerful capabilities of System 7.0 -- mean our customers get yet
another dividend on their original Macintosh investment," said
Puette.
Apple USA is reducing the suggested retail price on the following
Macintosh logic board upgrades in the United States immediately:

Product New SRP Old SRP % decrease

SE/30 Logic Board Upgrade $999 $1,699 41%
(Macintosh SE to Macintosh SE/30)

IIci Logic Board Upgrade $1,499 $2,399 38%
(Macintosh IIcx to Macintosh IIci)

IIfx Logic Board Upgrade $2,599 $2,999 13%
(Macintosh II or IIx to Macintosh IIfx)

(Note: DRAM is required and must be purchased separately.)

Installation of these upgrades will provide customers with the
virtual memory capability of System 7. In addition, the IIci and
IIfx upgrades will provide customers with 32-bit addressing.
Motorola 68000 and 68020-based computers with 2MB of memory and a
hard disk drive can run all the other features of System 7.
Apple USA is also reducing the suggested retail price of the
following Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) upgrade kits:

Product New SRP Old SRP % decrease

Macintosh 1MB Memory Expansion Kit $149 $299 50%
Macintosh IIci 1MB Memory Expansion Kit $125 $299 58%
Macintosh 2MB Memory Expansion Kit $225 $499 55%
Macintosh IIsi/IIci 4MB Memory Expansion Kit $425 $999 57%
Macintosh IIfx 4MB Memory Expansion Kit $425 $999 57%
Macintosh 4MB Memory Expansion Kit $425 $999 57%
Macintosh IIci 4MB Parity Memory Expansion Kit $475 $1,049 55%

In addition, Apple will offer an 8MB memory expansion kit for the
Macintosh IIsi and the Macintosh IIci. The kit is available
immediately for a U.S. suggested retail price of $825.
