[alt.graphics.pixutils] AVAIL & WANTED: School/Company bitmaps for faces

kinzler@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu (Steve Kinzler) (02/13/91)

'faces' is Rich Burridge's software (available in comp.sources.misc
archives) for monitoring lists with icons -- particularly e-mail. To
make it more useful in this function, I've gathered a collection of
bitmaps to represent various net.domains that can be placed in the faces
database for use as the default icon for mail from a particular domain.

Available by anonymous ftp from iuvax.cs.indiana.edu (129.79.254.192) in
pub/faces/bitmaps.tar.Z are 48x48 X11 format face icons for various
university, company and country domains. University and company icons
usually consist of their logo. Country icons consist of their flag.
They can also be retrieved via iuvax's mailserver,
mailserv@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu -- send mail there with
"send faces/bitmaps.tar.Z" in the body. Available with the bitmaps are
some auxiliary scripts for faces, including customized perl scripts that
can be hacked to monitor the system sendmail queue and multiple printer
queues.

These bitmaps were scavenged from places sundry and various, including
the Poskanzer bitmap collection, and adapted for use with faces. Others
were created by myself. I'd like to expand the collection by requesting
any bitmaps you may have (or are willing to create) to represent your
school or company's net.domain. Currently, there are bitmaps for most
of the major computer companies (dec.com, ibm.com, sun.com, etc) but
only two universities (indiana.edu, wisc.edu). If you want to create a
bitmap of your school logo, for example, you could use the X11 'bitmap'
bitmap editor to create a 48x48 bitmap and send it to me,
kinzler@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu, for placement in the ftp archive.
I'll take bitmaps of any format or size, though. If you've got a
better one than one already in the archives, send it too. The ftp
archive will be updated as I receive the bitmaps.
