In the New York City area, the Tri-State Railway Historical Society runs several fan trips per year. I went on their trip up the Conrail West Shore (the old NYCentral line up the west bank of the Hudson River) Line to Selkirk Yard last spring. Not only do I recommend their trips, but want to note that they generally use modern rolling stock. The last two trips have used NJTransit Dieseliner coaches (stainless steel ca. 1960 ex-Erie-Lackawanna with electrical head end power systems) and NJT locomotives (EMD F40PH-2's on the West Shore Trip, and GE U34CH's on this fall's trip up the Erie Main Line to Susquehanna, PA) As mentioned earlier, NJT celebrated the retirement of GG-1's from revenue service with their "Last Run of the GG-1" from Matawan to Newark on 29 Oct 1983. (for the record, the service that used GG-1 motive power on the North Jersey Coast Line now uses some GE E60's that NJT has purchased from Amtrak). Bill Mitchell (whuxk!wjm)
