                ROBOTICS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE DATABASE
	        ---------------------------------------------

                               Abstract
			       --------

Naval Ocean Systems Center (NOSC) in San Diego has developed a
Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Database (RAID) which is fully
operational and available to authorized users. The objectives of
RAID are to serve as a centralized knowledge base for government
sponsored robotics and Artificial Intelligence projects, to promote
coordination of effort and technology transfer in all branches of government
and to serve as an analytical tool for identification of critical research
areas. The database is accessible on-line to authorized users nationwide via
the MILNET/DDN. Data for RAID is collected from a variety of sources
including Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC), technical
conferences and workshops, Principal Investigators of projects,
  periodicals, etc.

RAID allows users to search the database in several different ways, to
obtain information on robotics and AI workshops or conferences to be held
anywhere in the world, to provide the name and telephone number of the project
point-of-contact, to retrieve areas of expertise of a Principal Investigator,
to read robotics and AI related news on-line, to send announcements to
multiple users electronically, or to print reports.

RAID is capable of supporting users by identifying the expertise of
different government agencies and thus helping two or more agencies with
complementary expertise to come together to work on a joint project,
through identification of common areas for tri-service research, in the
preparation of the AI Master Plan for the services, and by helping reduce
the duplication of effort between different government agencies (or within
   the same agency).

To become a RAID user the individual must be a government employee
or a government contractor. There is no charge to authorized RAID users.
