Howdy. We're in the process of making some small robots, but we're haveing some problems with where to get robotics supplies. I'm referring to small parts (all those little nifty things that you find in the drawers of a machine shop). If anyone knows of some mail-order companies that have a good selection of small parts (gears, bearings, pullies, screws, sheet metal, tools, whatever) please let me know. We figured we'd look in the Thomas Register (You know, that big stack of green books that you find in the library that is kind of a business yellow-pages for industrial America) and found a half-inch or so worth of pages all about motors. But so far, the folks we called haven't sent us a thing. We even found a bunch of places that were willing to custom make things, but as with many experimenters, we're on a shoestring budget and custom-machined goods are just too expensive. Most of the stuff we're looking for is small hardware or small parts, and there is not much of a heading for that in the Register. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= D M Yoshikami :-) ;-) :-) | Internet: yoshikami@usuhsb.ucc.usuhs.nnmc.navy.mil May the Forth be with you! | Bitnet : yoshikami@usuhsb.bitnet *** !!xob X*NU V METSYS T&TA eht ni renosirp dleh gnieb m`I !pleH !pleH *** =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

The catalogs from the following companies make both a great source of small mechanical parts but good references and design ideas as well. Try the following places: Designatronics has two division at the same place - Stock Drive Products and Sterling Instruments - both great source of small mechanical pieces. Sterling Instrument (Division of Designatronics) 55 South Denton Avenue New Hyde Park, NY 11040 (516) 328-3300 Sterling's catalog has excellent reference sections as well. For small motors, parts, etc., don't forget to try your local RC hobby shop. Find one that specializes in miniature RC cars. They usually have or can get small bearings, hinges, and other mechanical parts. DJ dj@ctron.com

Try a place called Small Parts Inc. in (I think) Florida. I don't have my catalog here, but if you've got access to a Thomas Register, you can find them there. Other places I've used when building my teleoperated vehicle are McMaster-Carr (in NJ) and Winfred Berg (in Chicago?). I fyou can't find adresses for the above, email me and I'll post contact info.
