Any word on state-side robot competitions this summer? I now have the time to make arrangements to attend one or two. Wasn't there a discussion of a lunar-type competition awhile back? (Electronic son of Willie Smith :) > > > -Jason Asbahr > jasona@sugar.hackercorp.com > jasona@nuchat.sccsi.com Good memory. I did a posting awhile back, asking for input on a proposed lunar rover type of robotic competition, to be held at a lavatube site called The Oregon Moonbase. The responses were favorable: lots of good input. The proposal called for the event to take place in late '92 or '93, and it was my attempt to do EARLY PLANNING with informed input. I hesitate to call this event more than a proposal because someone pulled the original "request for feedback on proposed competition" posting off the net and stuffed it into an Australian newspaper with a "this is going to happen" message attached. The whole proposal, including modifications from net-land feedback, is now currently circulating through funding approval channels. I hope to have a go-nogo word in the next couple of weeks. The biggest possible gotcha is the kind that I can live with, the possibility of another, more highly funded competition, to be held at the same general timeframe as the one we hope to hold out here in Oregon. I will let this other group make their own announcements when the time comes. Either way, we're still looking at mid-summer of '92 as the earliest date for our event, with late summer probably more likely. Meanwhile, anyone who would like an update on our plans thus far is encouraged to email: doughe@bamboo.cax.tek.com. I would also like to encourage anyone else with experience in similar events to share their wisdom (scars, and otherwise) if they care to. Thanks for the interest.
