I can't offer you any serious advice, but a word of consolation: I used to work
at Aetna Life and Casualty in Hartford, CT. We had an ethernet device that did
the same thing. Our network manager called it "screaming Mimi mode". It was
eventually taken out back and shot, as I remember.
