Since I haven't seen any mention of this: any subscribers in Northern Calif. or who intend to visit this summer might want to know that the railroad museum in Sacramento will be running excursion trains this summer. Service starts in a week or two and ends after Labor Day. I could not learn anything about the rolling stock. However the engine is the U.P. switcher that has been on static display since the museum opened. The engine is a UP version of SP classes S-9 through S-12.

I just came back from a long weekend
in Sac'to, and of course we rode the Rail Museum excursion train.
Nice ride, with very mellow (what else, it's California) volunteer train
crew. Evenmn mywife, who usually gets dragged along on these thintgs,
enjoyed the ride. As a ride, it isn't much. But it's nice to ride
behind coal-burning steam in an open car along the
banks of a river. The round trip is a bit under one hour.
And, of course, the museum is worth the visit. The quality ofo the
exhibits reminds me of the Smithsonian, but less, of course.
