My company is informally examining the idea of setting up an internal marketing BBS. We already have (and use) electronic mail via a proprietary mainframe application. What we need now: 1) A set of product-specific conferences where far-flung members of the corporation can leave text messages without knowing the correct recipient (pretty common as our operations span God-knows-how-many locations and time zones). Some sort of thread-following mechanism would be essential to help the users filter out the noise. 2) A listings area where binary Macintosh files may be stored and exchanged. Most likely lingua franca between all our comm programs would be XMODEM, but Y- and Z- would be nice. Most of the big BBS systems I have heard of run on PC-ATs. Naturally, I'd prefer a Macintosh. Are there any Mac BBSes out there which canw3 handle half-a-dozen incoming lines simultaneously? (I figure we take a dusty old Mac II out of the closet, stick five Hayes 2400M modems in the internal slots and hang another out the serial port.) Does anyone have experience running something like this? Are there consultants specializing in setting up in-house services like this? I need to sound intelligent about our options pretty quickly, so speedy responses would be welcomed.
