Sorry for the goofup in my posting--for some reason I wasn't able to cancel it.

[My previous posting got mangled, so here's the cleaned up version]

I have a question for you modem gurus out there.

I have an Anchor MacPac 2400 modem (no MNP, sigh) that I use in conjunction
with Versaterm to dial into my Unix machine at school. I'm looking for ways to
minimize the time required for file transfers. The files involved are
invariably *.sit.hqx type stuff.

Given an upper limit of 2400 bps, what protocol(s) allow for the highest
effective transfer rate? I used to use the macput/macget Unix utilities in the
past (using the MacBinary protocol), but those don't work since we started
using a terminal server. Of late I've been using Kermit with packet size 1024.

The recent discussion about the poor file transfer performance of kermit has me
looking for other options. Would zmodem be a better choice? I'm not sure
VersaTerm (I use v3.20) supports zmodem.

Any other things I can do to improve the transfer rate--disable XON/XOFF? Help
would be much appreciated.
