The relevant software: zmodem version unknown
White Knight 11.06
The problem: When uploading text files with zmodem I lose the line breaks.
What seems to be happening is that the mac's CR chars are sent up
as is and not translated to unix NL chars so that I get a file
with no line breaks but only "foreign" CR chars at the unix end.
A similar problem would occur in downloading except one can use the filters
and translate NL chars to CR chars and thus line breaks are preserved and
there are no mystery box characters at the beginning of each line or endless
lines. If I use kermit then it seems to sensibly translate on uploads. Does
anyone know how to get around this problem with zmodem and WK? I have read the
manual but found nothing. There is a RCMD to add NL chars to every CR char but
this is a poor solution as though correct line breaking occurs every line
includes a CR char at the end.
The Request: A WK RCMD to convert CRs to NL chars to massage text files
OR
The page number in the WK manual where a method is explained
OR
Any other possibly helpful suggestions.
It seems a little odd to me to be able to only filter downloads and not
uploads. I don't know whether the mainframe zmodem or WK 11.06 is at fault.
Are there more recent versions of zmodem than that at the SUMEX/Stanford
archive? Is 11.06 the latest and greatest ver of WK which promises to cure
all problems for evermore?
Thanks in advance for any help

For downloading text files from Unix so that they will look ok in a Mac
text editor, you want to create a filter that converts 010 to 013 for
File transfers and activate the Filter in the File transfer options dialog.
You do want to turn this filter off for other file transfers as it could
ruin a binary file.
There is an RCMD in the Freesoft RT thats called CR2LF that would probably
solve the problem for uploading text to a unix host.
As far as Filters that are bi-directional, probably not in WK 11, perhaps
the next version will include this feature. Latest version of WK is 11.07.
