I've been reading the traffic on MacLayers with some interest. Maybe this was addressed & I missed it -- if so please excuse. Most folks running MacLayers seem to be doing so on a BSD host. uw already works on BSD, but as far as I know *does not* work on a System V host. On the other hand, AT&T invented a protocol called Layers and has implemented it on many of its systems. It's what they use to multiplex many processes through a single connection for their BLIT and other succeeding fancy terminals, e.g. 630, 730, etc. I have both a Mac and an AT&T 3b1. The 3b1 does come with Layers. Supposedly the Layers stuff *does work* with AT&T's 630 terminal. Methinks this is really where the word "Layers" in MacLayers was originally supposed to have come from, but I don't know if the current incarnation of MacLayers is really implementing the AT&T Layers protocol in a compatible way. Can I simply attach a Mac with MacLayers client side to my 3b1 and get it to talk to the Layers host software that came with my machine? Has anybody tried this? -- Jim Rosenberg CIS: 71515,124 decvax!idis! \ WELL: jer allegra! ---- pitt!amanue!jr BIX: jrosenberg uunet!cmcl2!cadre! /
