Sometime in the past I remember a reference to a Unix utility that would allow windows to be brought up on a Mac as if it were actually th Unix system itself imitating a Macintosh. It was quite some time ago, and I cannot remember the details, and I'm hoping someone may enlighten me as to what I am remembering... Yes there are two... MacLayers is the one that I use. I have it currently working on a Unix BSD 4.3 machine (one of our NeXTs). It works pretty well and will allow multiple processes each having their own window running on your macintosh. The other is "Unix Windows" or UW. I haven't tried this one yet because it seemed to me that MacLayers was easier to install. -Rob

MacLayers also lets you download. (Slow, roughly xmodem.) The last version of uw I saw couldn't do file transfers. -- /---------------------signature version 3.5----------------------------------/ / "I have seen my next computer, and it is the Amiga 3000." - me / / MS-DOS... ick! Excuse me for hopping on this thread, but I'd like to ask a question about MacLayers. I recently installed it on my Mac and host, and I'm finding it quite useful. However, I can't seem to figure out how to download a non-HQX file. When I try using the Xmodem which is on my host already (sx), then invoking Download File on the MacLayers end, it only bombs out (I mean literally - the MacLayers bombs completely). Any suggestions? I'm sure it's something I am doing wrong, but I don't know what. Thanks!
