Hi, I would like to know if there currently is a "hardware" solution to putting a LaserJet II on an AppleTalk network (i.e. some kind of cartridge or proven Shiva NetSerial-based solutions). I currently have a "software" solution that gives both Postscript and Network capabilities to a LaserJet II (Teletypesetting's $145 TScript software) by using a 68030 Mac with LOTS of RAM as a printer server. This solution works, but it involves A LOT of overhead. Has anyone used an HP serial driver with a Shiva NetSerial???? Would a Mac II with TScript and one of those NuBus Parallel cards be a better solution????? Are HP planning to produce an ATalk/Postscript cart. similar to the optional LaserJet III ones, but for the LaserJet II (not the IIP) ? -- +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pascal Gosselin | Internet: pascal@altitude.CAM.ORG | | Gest-Mac Inc. I print using the MacPrint printer driver. In fact, I also use SuperLaserSpool to print in the background. It works. But it is slow. Sometimes it can take 10 minutes to print a mildly complex page (at 300 dpi). For speed, I can use the low resolution option in the printer driver dialog box (75 dpi) which is much faster. It's a great way to use a non-Postscript laser printer. MacPrint is very well done. My Mac gets pretty sluggish with background printing turned on. But it works. I'd rather have a postscript printer, but this set up is much cheaper, especially if you already have access to a LJ II (note: you need at least 1 meg of memory in the printer).
