[comp.sys.mac.comm] Mac as X terminal for X test suites?

newton@cs.utexas.edu (Peter Newton) (07/11/90)

We are working on X windows applications for a Sun and have a testing
problem that a Mac might solve. The problem is the development of a
test suite for an X user interface. We would like to be able to
capture events such as key presses and mouse clicks in a file in such
a way that we could play them back later. Then, we can reapply the
tests at any time with minimal effort.

Things like MacroMaker can capture the events on the Mac. The idea is
to use the Mac as an X terminal via MacX or eXodus and use MacroMaker to
capture and replay the events.

Has anybody tried this? Would anyone who has MacX or eXodus be
willing to try it and let me know how well it works? What are general
opinions of MacX and eXodus these days? I understand that MacX has
been released.

BTW, MacroMaker is bundled with the Mac OS.

Thanks.
