Please bear with me if this question has been discussed before on the net; I
am new to comp.sys.mac.comm.
I have a Mac (IIci) and an HP Laserjet IIP printer. The printer has 0.5M+2M
of memory, and I use a package called MacPrint to interface between the Mac
and the IIP. Now here are my questions:
1. The MacPrint utility, although limited in the number of non-Postscript
fonts it supports, prints great. But, even for a relatively small and
uncomplicated document and despite Multifinder being turned on on my Mac,
it takes a hell of a long time for my prompt to return after the print job
has been scheduled. Does anyone know if this is intrinsic to MacPrint?
Does anyone know of a PrintCache-like utility (for the PCs) for the Macs
which will let me in effect print in the background?
2. Without resorting to a more expensive alternative, i.e., getting a
Postscript or Postscript-emulation cartridge and the associated software
and accelerator (like the one being sold by Fry's - a Pacific technology
package for $500), is there any other reasonably powerful and cheap way of
interfacing the IIP to my Mac?
Thanks for your help. If possible, please e-mail your suggestions to me.
