[comp.sys.mac.comm] File transfer for 7-bit MNP-5

OK, Let me explain my problem.

I want to download macintosh programs from the campus UNIX system to my
mac. Last year this was not a problem, I lived in the dorms and had a
9600 bps 7-bit connecton to the computers. I used sz/rz and ZTerm and
downloaded using ZModem. I was never able to upload using ZModem, I think
becouse of the 7-bit connection.

This year I am using my new Cardinal 2400 MNP-5 modem. (seems nice so far.. )
The cable has not been sent yet so I am using a homemade cable with three
wires. (recieve, transmit, and ground) This means that I have no handshaking
between the modem and the computer. Again the MNP-5 modem on campus goes
through some network that is 7-bit only. ZModem does not work this time.

When I type sz filename the recieve window comes up in ZTerm (0.85) but nothing
else happens. Same hang occurs with X/Y modem. Kermit works correctly but
is (of couse) slow.

What I am doing now is this. Since the modem has error correction I can just
cat the .hqx file and pick recieve ASCII from the menu in Zterm to recieve
the file. I have done many files this way and have never had an error.
Some of the files were 300K. The average cps was about 270. (data compression)

I would rather us ZModem because it is more convient to send aa large batch
of files and would be faster if the files did not have to be binhexed.

Any Ideas?
