[comp.sys.mac.comm] CompuServe via Internet

dane@pangea.Stanford.EDU (Dane Spearing) (08/23/90)

Some time back I was interested in finding a way to log on to CompuServe
via Internet - but couldn't seem to be able to find a way.
(compuserve.com exists, but you can't telnet to it).
Well, I HAVE FOUND A WAY!!!

CompuServe is accessable from the merit network, which can be accessed
by telnetting to "hermes.merit.edu" (35.1.1.6), and typing "compuserve"
at the "Which Host?" prompt. In fact, many services are available from
the merit network (which is maintained by the University of Michigan).
Just thought ya'll would like to know --

What is the surcharge coming into Compuserve that way? Since they
know your ID, there probably is one charged back.
What else is Merit good for?
