[comp.sys.mac.comm] anon ftp security on micros, NCSA Telnet

jds@uncecs.edu (Jane D. Smith) (08/31/90)

We are considering setting up a mac (MacOS) and pc (DOS) using
the server FTP feature of NCSA Telnet for public access file
transfer. However, our initial efforts are uncovering some
serious security issues.

We'd like:
 - open access
 - to not utilize telpass, so our logs can reflect connection origin
 - read-only systems
 - disconnect after specified idle time

If you have any experience/suggestions/success or failure doing
this, we'd like to hear from you. I will be glad to post a
summary if there is interest.
