[comp.sys.mac.comm] Wanted: best mechanism to maintain config.tel file over network

barnett@grymoire.crd.ge.com (Bruce Barnett) (09/06/90)

We are faced with updating 450 copes of tn3270 (MacTCP version) and
the config.tel file across 16 different zones. Each zone currently
has a different config.tel file.

At this time, we have to walk around to each machine and install the
files by hand. Having the users update the files is not an acceptable
solution. (It's a long story....)

The ideal solution is: a program that can determine the zone, grab the
proper config.tel file from a central resource (AppleShare server,
TCP/IP Service, TOPS volume) and update the user's file everytime the
Macintosh reboots.

Is there such a program around? Commercial or Shareware?
Anyone have the sources to something close to this?

We plan to install a nameserver - so that changes in IP addresses
are handled automatically. Do we have to have separate versions of the
config.tel file in each zone?

Waiting for system 7 is not acceptable. Any other ideas? Thanks.
