Version 1.1 of Eudora, my POP3/SMTP Macintosh email program is now available for anonymous ftp from ux1.cso.uiuc.edu, in the mac/eudora subdirectory. Eudora is free, and works with either MacTCP or the Communications Toolbox (though there are some gotchas in the latter). It is a very full-featured mail program, including nicknames, signature, multiple mailboxes, automatic mail checking, and automatic binhex/debinhex of mac documents. It is NOT a HyperCard stack. It is a stand-alone, Multifinder-friendly application. Source code is available, as is a 60 page manual. All I ask is that you let me know if you use it, and what you think of it. Call it "Feedback-ware". I do listen; many people have seen <their favorite feature> added to Eudora, because they asked for it (though some of them had to work hard to convince me :-)). -- Steve Dorner, U of Illinois Computing Services Office Internet: s-dorner@uiuc.edu UUCP: uunet!uiucuxc!uiuc.edu!s-dorner

I recently became a new Eudora user, and I'm very impressed. I've investigated all of the free Mac POP clients I could get my hands on, and Eudora is definitely the best of the bunch. It's simple, elegant, and powerful. Here at Northwestern we will be distributing it as our officially recommended and supported Mac POP client. My work on Disinfectant involves an enormous amount of Internet mail, and I need a rugged mail program. Eudora does everything I ask of it. If you're interested in Mac POP clients, or if are currently using one of the other ones, you should definitely check out Eudora. Kudos to Steve Dorner for an excellent piece of work.
