I recently built an Ulrich Trailer On Flat Car (TOFC) kit. It is a 40' flat car carrying a 32' trailer with a pedestal to support the front end of the trailer. Can anyone answer the following question about the prototype? 1. What year did the railroads, and in particular the Pennsylvania R.R., start using these cars. 2. The Ulrich kit came with two castings that weren't shown in the instructions, and I would like to know what they are and where they go on the model. They look like chocks or ramps. They might the fold down ramps that allow one to drive between cars, and if they are they measure, 4' high and stand on a base 2.5' wide by 1' deep. I doubt if they're ramps because it doesn't make sense to drive along these cars with that pedestal bolted to one end. 3. Finally what year were the 50' piggyback cars with 24' trailers first used? Here I'm thinking of the 50' car made by Athearn. -- Don Corey AT&T Bell Laboratories WH 2A-140 (201) 386-2349 ihnp4!clyde!dnc
