[comp.sys.mac.comm] DEC LanWORKS for Mac and SCSI Ethernet adaptors

eirikur@ranger.enet.dec.com (Eirikur Hallgrimsson) (09/21/90)

Someone mailed me a query about using the Shiva SCSI Ethernet adaptor with DEC
LanWORKS for Mac. I've lost your address :-( The official answer is that it is
not supported, but we have a report that it works:

                            -< Ethergate works ok >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Ethergate works fine as an Appletalk router. (It's a little
slower than a FastPath 4) The Ethergate also supports dial-in access
to an Appletalk network (I suggest 9600 Baud or higher). It has
one Ehternet port (Thin or normal) and two serial ports. The serial
ports can be configured as a localtalk port, Remote Appletalk (dial-up)
or shared serial (EG: Modem dial-out..) It support both Phase 1
and 2 Appletalk and will function like the Apple Internet router
    migration tool and convert P1 <=> P2. It doesn't support DECnet/MAC
    routing only appletalk.

If you get one, make sure to get the latest software fom Shiva (V1.5
or higher) as there are some problems with the older version. The
software is downloaded from a MAC.

Note: Because it doesn't support DECnet routing, CTERM and other
tools that require DECnet will not work!!

Thanks to George Sheehy for passing this along.
