I have a medium sized network consisting of 4 Sun workstations, 2 PCs and about 25 Macintoshes all of which are equipped with Kinetics EtherPort II or SE cards. For some time now I have had the problem that software transferes initiated on an SE are about 4 to 5 times SLOWER than software transferes initiated on a MacII. This is problematic enough itself but today I noticed a knock on effect on the rest of the net. When an SE is talking accross the net, all other Sun traffic is also much much slower - a difference between 200-300Kb/s data transfer rate between 2 Suns WITHOUT the SE talking on the net to about 50Kb/s between the same 2 Suns WITH the SE talking on the net. As far as I am aware I AM using the most up to date Ethernet driver software... v3.25 Etherport II driver and v2.50 Etherport SE driver. Can anyone shed any light on this problem for me ??? I would also like to here if anyone else has seen similar results. I've heard varying resposes to the effect that the Kinetics Ethernet boards are both good and bad but as yet even the hardware supplyers have not been able to help me. I'm hoping that posting this problem to the Net will provoke some useful input. Thanks in advance for anyone who takes the time to respond, best regards Chris Morgan cmorgan@ooc.uva.nl or morgan@riksnl.uucp
