I have the new Prodigy version 2.1 ( or is it 1.2) that has just come out. I loaded it and tried to use it but fail to connect. I have tried calling Prodigy Tech Support but after 4-5 calls, I am becoming convinced they don't have an answer and can't help. So I am turning to the net for help. The problem: I try to dial and login but the modem hangs up in the middle of dialing the number and says "you have a noisy phone line, try again". Noisy phone line is NOT the problem. I have never encountered a noisy phone line in years with other comm programs. I have a Hayes compatible MultiTech brand MultiModem 1200 model 212AH. According to Prodigy (P from now on), this happens to be a "slow" modem. So they told me to edit the "config.sm" file and at the top of the file, type "modem type:1". I did this and it helps alot. Now it dials the number, rings, and then hangs up again and gives me the "noisy line" msg again. P also told me to type 3 "," (commas) after the phone number it is dialing. Now it dials the number, rings, and then connects. But just as it is connecting, it hangs up again and gives me the "noisy line" msg again. I tried 4 and 5 commas but it behaves exactly the same...as if 3 commas is the most you can help it out. My suspicions is that there is a S register value that needs tweeking. My question to you is, if you have a MultiTech Multimodem model 212AH or have seen similar behavior using P, please let me know what you did to fix the problem. HELP! Please email or post to comp.sys.mac.comm --Bruce PS: Comments on Prodigy as a service compared to the others are welcome, too. -- *** These are my opinions and not necessarily those of MGC *** Bruce Holm / (503) 626-7000 Mentor Graphics Corp. / USENET: bruceh@pdx.mentor.com Beaverton, OR 97005-7191 / UUCP: ...!uunet!mntgfx!bruceh
