My BBS writing system has just come out recently in comp.mac.binaries. News in this part of the net has been sporadic this week (to say the least) if anyone has mailed me and it has bounced I'm sorry - try again. I've received a number of questions and to save me a flood of mail here are some basic questions and answers up front. (Feel free to ask more here I'll answer if I see them) Paul Campbell Taniwha Systems Q: I tried your BBS program and it complained that I don't have the Communications Toolbox installed - where can I get it? A: It is included for free in System 7.0, for 6.0.3 or later you can obtain it through APDA [(800)282-2732, Canada (800)637-0029 everywhere else (408)562-3910]. It costs around $80. I'm licensed to include it with products I sell, I don't know if I'm allowed to include it with things I give away, if anyone at Apple knows if I can then I will include it with my next release. Q: I'm missing parts <1/2/3> of your distribution can you send them to me? A: I'm sorry I can't. I posted the release to comp.binaries.mac back in June - then went on vacation for a month - I assumed it went out on the net then. I dumped my binhexed/stuffited copy a month or so ago while purging my disks. As mentioned above I haven't received all the parts of the net either. Please ask some of your net neighbors for copies. Q: I tried the BBS on my Mac Plus and it crashed - what's wrong? A: I don't know, I can't reproduce it - it works on my Mac Plus. The problem seems to be related to some beta versions of the CTB - if someone can show me how to reproduce it I'll fix it! Q: I tried to print the documentation and it said I didn't have a printer called 'LaserWriter' - how do I print it? A: Use the 'namer' application to rename one of your LaserWriters while it prints then name it back. There really needs to be an application independant format so that people can send good quality documentation to people who don't have the application it was written in (I used to get pissed when I got documentation in Word before I bought it). -- Paul Campbell UUCP: ..!mtxinu!taniwha!paul AppleLink: CAMPBELL.P What most people don't realize is that those plastic cover slips that your 3 inch floppies come in are actually condoms for protecting your computer from harmfull computer viruses - practice safe computing ..... :-) -- Paul Campbell UUCP: ..!mtxinu!taniwha!paul AppleLink: CAMPBELL.P What most people don't realize is that those plastic cover slips that your 3 inch floppies come in are actually condoms for protecting your computer from harmfull computer viruses - practice safe computing ..... :-)
