[comp.sys.mac.comm] lpr for Mac?

cnolan@vax1.tcd.ie (10/25/90)

Can any one out there help me ...

We have numerous PCs, Unix and VMS machines talking to each other with TCP/IP.
We can use lpr/lpd to print to a UNix host. But now we must support MACs

What is available to do this in the MAC world? We have no TCP product for
MACs (yet). Tho the usual share/free products are available on campus.
Does NCSA Telnet have lpr as in the PC version?

Also what ethernet boards are available for the MAC IIcx/fx?

What ether-boxes are favoured for MAC Plus/SEs?

I have been testing a product from Stanford University (SU-Mac/IP) that has an
lpr that runs as a desk accessory. It seems to work fine. I don't have
an address,
but on-line docs are supposedly available via anon. ftp from
jessica.stanford.edu.
You could check there for more info. MacTCP is the preferred tcp product
for Macs.

There are a lot of boards available. We use Apple's for II series machines.

We use Novell/Kinetics EtherPort boards for SE's. The boards aren't bad, but it
takes forever and costs a bunch to have them repaired by Novell. We've
also tried
NuvoTech's SCSI adaptors for SE's that already have their slot used for a large
display. They seem to work ok, though obviously slower than an internal board.

Good luck.
