So folks, what do you think will be the impact of the Reagan budget proposal on Amtrak? Essentially the proposals calls for discontinuing all subsidies for Amtrak. Will this proposal pass through Capitol Hill? It seems unlikely. If it does pass, what do you think will get discontinued in the Amtrak system? It would appear that the NE Corridor and the LA-SD corridor will definitely survive any subsidy cuts. Probably NY Chicago services will survive and the Coast Starlight will survive just on the basis of patronage too. Somehow, I find it difficult to believe that the Empire Builder or the California Zephyr or the Southwest Chief would be discontinued, but then who knows.... Just curious.... It would be a pity to loose the wonderful Superliner trains in the west! I fervently hope that that will not happen. Jishnu Mukerji AT&T ISLab Holmdel
