[comp.sys.mac.comm] What

I've seen a couple of references to news readers lately that suggest that
these readers are hypercard stacks. I've seen mac/gnuucp and so i could
believe that such a thing would exist. What I'd like to know is:

What/where are the news readers available?

What are the advantages to using one, as opposed to rn (or even notes)?

Are they hard to set up? I find the idea of using my Mac as a front end
for news interesting, but if mac/gnuucp (for mail) is typical, it would
be like using Fourth
Dimension to keep track of my CDs--massive overkill. Can these things just log
in and get everything or do they need to have anything in particular running
on the unix end? And could they work with MacTCP, which is my connection
to my unix account, or only dialup.

Thanx much,
