I need to buy a 2400 baud (external) modem for a mac. The price of these seem to vary greatly. MacWarehouse sells a 2400 "Fully Hayes AT Compatible" modem for $99 including cable and "MacKnowledge" software. In the back of MacWeek, I see several modems including Challenger VP2400 for $69, Anchor Automation 2400E5 M for $245, Hayes 2400 Smartmodem for $378, Hayes 2400 SmartModem V.42 for $478 and Prometheus 2400 MNP5 for $230. What is the difference between these modems? Is it a matter of speed? Data compression? Compatiblity? Please help me make a wise decision. I will be using this modem for Applelink and remote access to Unix machines. Are there other advantates to Fax modems? I apologize if this has been discussed recently here, I normally don't read this group. Thanks for you help. -- o, ,, , | Bernie Bernstein | , ,, L>O/ \,/ \ ,| University of Colorado at boulder |/ \,,/ \ O./ ' / . `, / | office: (303) 492-8136 | / ` \ ,. ,/ / , ' | email: bernard@boulder.colorado.edu | / '' \
