This is a quasi follow up article to another I wrote some time ago about connecting Macs remotely to an AppleTalk network via modem. It is not a summary since I did not get enough information to make a worthwhile article; I should add I received as many requests for information as I did information. Apparently there are two 'systems' available which allow you to connect remotely to an AppleTalk network. 'Liason' by Farallon and TeleBridge by Shiva. I couldn't find much on Liason, though it retails for about $270US. Supposedly, it is software only, but I haven't seen it. It would be feasible to construct such a system via software; an interesting idea for a project... Net in the printer port, modem in the modem port... TeleBridge I did get promotional information on. It looks remarkably like Shiva's NetSerial and I wonder if there is a big difference hardware wise (and $100US). What happens is you have this TeleBridge box connected to the network you want to join. It has a local talk connector and a serial connector in which you can put a modem that goes anywhere from 110 to 57k bps. It allows dial in access from a Mac with modem&software, or network access from another net with TeleBridge and modem. Shiva has a US 1-800-458-3550 number ;-) Shiva also offers educational discounts ($325US for TeleBridge, software, modem cable & power supply). (Ps. I would appreciate if people who have actually used these products could post follow ups on the net.) -- (------------------------------------------------------------------------) ( Bernie Wieser, wieser@cpsc.ucalgary.ca, BSWieser@uncamult.BITNET ) ( 4rth Year Dbl.Mgr Cpsc Clhc University of Calgary | ) ( S/H Developer Dept. of Psychology, " " " \|/ )
