I use a terminal emulator (MacLayers) that does not have an automatic login script facility. So, I wrote a separate application called DialScript that provides this capability. DialScript is an interpreter for an extremely simple script language that lets you automatically communicate with the Mac serial ports. The script language contains statements to send strings to a serial port, wait for strings, time out, etc. There is also a statement that chains to another application. That's how I get MacLayers started after login is complete. You can, of course, use DialScript in conjunction with any terminal emulator. It is my intention to distribute this little program as freeware, with source. However, it would be best if a few people other than me try it before this. That way, I won't waste too many people's time, if there are egregious errors I have not noticed. Anybody out there want to give this thing a try? If so, send me mail and let me know what kind of Mac you have. ---- Peter Newton Computer Sciences, TAY 2.124 (512) 471-9735 University of Texas at Austin newton@cs.utexas.edu Austin, TX 78712-1188 ...{uunet|gatech|ames}!cs.utexas.edu!newton
