<is this line necessary?> I noted several replies to the question of 0 and 0-27 track, but thought I'd add the following of possible interest- Lionel also used to make 0-72, which formed a circle 72" in diameter. The 0-72 track requires 16 sections to make a circle, which permits a greater variety of angles, and the straight sections are longer than regular 0 track sections. They may still make this, but I am not sure. You could get higher speed running with this track, and much less chance of derailment while backing up. If you are serious about building an empire, you would do well to consider larger radius track, as putting the train back on every couple minutes is not a lot of fun. Additional track diameters are made by Murray Klein (MDK Line). I think they offer a 40" diameter, and possibly others. Also, the price may be a little less than what you have to pay for brand new Lionel. The quality seems to be similar to the track made by Lionel. For ultimate flexibility in toy train track, consider the Gargraves line of track and switches. The track comes in three-foot lengths which are flexible, so you can form any curve you like. The switches have a shallow angle of divergence and are less prone to derailments than the Lionel switches, in my experience. Most, but not all, Lionel locos will take the 0-27 curves, regardless of what they are called. Some of the larger 0 gauge locos will NOT, however. Best to test first. BTW, the price you are paying for that track is VERY high. You ought to try to find some toy train collectors in your area (there are lots of them in NJ) and go to a toy train meet (flea market). I am a member of the Train Collectors Association, and will attempt to answer questions relating to (older) Lionel or how to set them up. Good luck with your empire! Michael D. Stimac
