[comp.sys.mac.comm] Tabbynet setup

jacobson@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (R J Jacobson) (12/01/90)

I had to setup tabbynet all over on my BBS (it had been setup by someone
else before I got it) It seems to work ok now, but I remember the packes
of mail getting saved to the folder where the tabbymaint files get
created (ie the config, event, areas.bbs, pointnet, echos, schedule,
ect files get put). They now get put at the level of tabbynet instead.
Below is a little more of the description of my problem as I sent it to
a friend. Are there others who use tabbynet intimately who can tell me
if I did something wrong?

I did have one question about my setup of Tabby which seemed to work and
even got a small packet that was still on my NEC's bbs. When I did the
configuration of tabbymaint I had some trouble with the path for the
generic file. I tried to choose the tabby folder I created by giving the
full path "Avalon BBS:Telefinder Host:Telefinder System:Tabby:" which is
where I thought the generic files would go. It would not let me put the
generic files there but wanted them at the same level as the BBS program
and Tabbynet & associated programs. Thus the generic file was put at the
path level of "Avalon BBS:Telefinder Host:Telefinder System:" So when I
did the rest of the configuration, setting up of the events, schedule,
routing, point net, etc that info still was saved by tabbymaint to the
full path that includes the Tabby folder which is what I remember in the
second sight bbs I was running before I lost it all.

My question has to do with the generic file and where the packets get
placed by Tabby during an event. I do seem to remember that the generic
file was already in the same level as the Tabbynet and associated
programs and the BBS. But I remember that the archived packets that it
picks up always got put in the same folder as the config, events, schedule,
point net, aka, etc files created by tabbymaint. In the case of my
previous BBS they got put one level below tabbynet in the path----
Host:Tabby (tabbynet, and programs were located at the level Host: like
second sight was---ie the root level). Since all the tabbymaint created
files except generic got put in my tabby folder in the path-----------
"Avalon BBS:Telefinder Host:Telefinder System:Tabby:" I assumed that the
packets I got last night would get put in the tabby file just like they
did in the old setup. But after my forced tabby event last night the
archived packet got put at the same level as the Tabby program and
generic file rather than one level further down in the Tabby folder.
Is something wrong or am I remembering wrong. I always remember that all
the mail packets did go in the tabby folder where all the tabbymaint
created files went which kept the root level of my RRH/SS BBS clean of
the somtimes many packets when I was doing points. So my question to you is
do you have any idea why the first mail packet did not get put into
the tabby folder in my newly created setup. The config item of tabbymaint
seems to be the only place to assign tabby paths so what did I do wrong,
or is everything OK?

Thanks

Sorry about the long post but I am just learning tabby now from ground up after
loosing the original setup given to me by the previous sysop a year ago (thats
another story of murphys laws in operation!)

Anyway what I was trying to do is get all the mail packets to go into the
same folder (named tabby) as the tabbymaint configuration files like config,
events, schedule....etc. That is the way it was before I lost the original
setup.

I was for some reason having trouble in getting the pathname that gets
put in the generic file which directs the mail packets for tabby. It now
seems I have gotten it. But not after also finding I had ArcMail Extract
spelled wrong in the events setup. Hopefully I got the rest right.

I have encountered another problem in setup. When I went back to my
tabby original disk and the 2.2 update disk I found neither contained
Tabbyrobot. Isn't that supposed to be on these disks. It is mentioned in
my tabby docs and I used to use it alot. If it is not too much trouble could
someone email me a binhexed/stuffed latest version of tabbynet. Right now
to do crashmail I am having to play with the events/schedule setup in
tabbymaint wich is an awkward way to do things.

Thanks to those who have already responded to my post!
