[comp.sys.mac.comm] Another Mac Internet archive for your FTP'ing pleasure..

dauter@terminator.cc.umich.edu (Michael Dautermann) (12/02/90)

Okay, so if you've seen my Usenet messages before or perhaps my form
letters which I mail out to a lot of people, you might want to hit
J now.. otherwise, let me tell you about a humongo (that's "gargantuan"
in another language) Macintosh Public Domain & Shareware archive on
the Internet that I help to compile and keep track of.

The University of Michigan Mac archive can be found at um-mts.cc.umich.edu
(35.1.1.43) or it's shadow twin, ub-mts.cc.umich.edu (35.1.1.47) and has
literally a thousand or two free/low cost applications, fonts, cdevs,
games, etc. etc. you name it, we probably have it -- on line. A lot of
the stuff you won't find on Rascal or Sumex either, so it can be considered
to be a good alternative site to check out whenever you're looking for
something specific.

To FTP, simply log in anonymously, type in "cd PC2:" to change to the
mac directory. If you type in "ls", it'll take at least 5 minutes to
compile the list of all the files, and then another ten minutes for
them to scroll down your screen (the archive isn't maintained on
a unix machine.. yet..). It's a better idea to type in
"get !index index.txt" and for instructions, "get do/download2 download.txt".

The reason I'm writing these notes (and form letters), is because I'm
always out checking for new and interesting things to add in.. if you're
a developer and are tired of waiting forever for other archives to
add your handiwork, send along a copy of your program to my address, I'll test it
out and add it in a matter of a few days. And if you have access
to Compu$erve, GEnie or America Online, I'm extremely interested in
obtaining programs and files that are available there, and not on the
internet for everyone. If you have any questions, comments, or whatever..
please please please feel free to send along mail. Thanks!
