[comp.sys.mac.comm] America Online/applelink

Are America Online and applelink the same system? Are there any gateways
between either system and the rest of the world?

BTW, a net.gateways newsgroup would make a fine addition to Usenet.

No, not the same system/service at all. They share a commonality though. They
were both given life by Apple. AppleLink continues to be devoted to Apple's
needs, but America Online has become a seperate venture with no ties to Apple.

What would be the focal point of a "net.gateways" newgroup?

No, they are completely separate. America Online (used to be personal
AppleLink, or something like that) is a system for general public,
while AppleLink is for special users like developers, etc. BTW,
America Online is not run by Apple.

You can find an article with all the gateways from one of the
news.newusers.* newsgroups.
