Is there any solution to connect an AppleTalk network to IBM 3090 using a Mac II and 16MbpsFiber Optic Token Ring. It will support AppleTalk protocols? Connecting only one Mac II will be enough to connect all mac's which are connected to that Mac II? Any Mac in this net can see other AppleShare Servers? thanks... You could try calling Tridata Systems at (408)727-3270. They make a range of protocol converters that talk AppleTalk on one side and a range of IBM mainframe protocols on the other side. All Macs on the network can then become IBM 3270 terminals, and you can do stuff like print to AppleTalked PostScript printers from the mainframe. You don't need a Mac II (I don't know about the current version; the one I used ran on 512K Macs). When I last checked into this, it was a cost-effective alternative to an IBM terminal controller, though I didn't test the higher-speed units. I've only used a very old version, using a 9600 bps serial link to the mainframe, so I don't know how good the version for faster links is. I'd be interested in an update on what's available. -- Philip Machanick philip@pescadero.stanford.edu
