Excuse me if this is a FAQ, but I can't find the file I had on this. I have a FastPath IV running KIP, and want to configure UDP encapsulation to a GatorBox across a Proteon router that only passes TCP/IP. The fellow on the other side is flush with Suns and BSD Vaxes, and there are a number of other FastPaths and GatorBoxes through the domain, so it seems the logical choice is to put the atalkad daemon up on a UNIX box. As I recall, this comes in the Sumacc package, but I cannot find the details on ordering that. Does anyone have the authoritative answer, and any pointers on how to get started? Also, while we are on the subject, I am investigating the possibility of putting up a terminal server with SLIP capability and scavenging some Telebits I have used for other functions for it. What would make me commit to this approach would be the availability of UDP encapsulation of Appletalk from the individual remote Mac, routing through SLIP. This would permit me to connect through SLIP to the InterNet, access my NetNews via NNTP, FTP files for remote nodes, Telnet into my VAX, mount my Alisashare fileserver, and get my MS Mail all through one connection. I Understand that there is a performance hit for wrapping one protocol in another, but as I currently survive wrapping TCP packets in async Appletalk, I believe it is a manageable solution. Any thoughts? Jeff E Mandel MD MS Asst. Professor of Anesthesiology Tulane University School of Medicine New Orleans, LA
