I'm looking for a mail notifier and handler that can manipulate UNIX mailers from a LocalTalk Mac through a Fastpath. I've seen bits and pieces of the functionality required in a couple of programs. What I imagine is a UNIX daemon talking to a CDEV and a DA on the Macs. The CDEV allows the user to specify the internet address of their mail machine and asks for a UNIX password to authenticate them when they boot. When mail is received, they get a little reminder (like biff on UNIX), then they can fire up the DA to retrieve mail and read, send, or reply as needed. I don't want yet another username database to administer like those required by Mac based mailers with SMTP gateways (Quickmail or MS Mail). Just something that brings SMTP down to the Macs in a straightforward fashion. The Macdumps program is a good example of a UNIX daemon interacting with Localtalk Macs; and 'theNews' is a good example of a Mac program interacting with a TCP/IP service. Now if I could only put them together! Has anyone heard of such a beast??? -- _________________________________________________________________________ Dan Peterka S-CUBED 3398 Carmel Mtn Rd. dan@scubed.scubed.com (619) 587-8338 San Diego, CA 92121 _________________________________________________________________________
