[comp.sys.mac.comm] New Question: Zterm/Mac/Unix

lingerke@mentor.cc.purdue.edu (Ken Linger) (01/25/91)

Ok, first of all, thanks to all who sent me help on getting Zterm to work with
Unix's "sz" command. I tried the -w and -e option (both, neither, each) to
no avail. Then, I tried something else.

Some told me that it was probably the MNP on the modem (its a 2400 Microcom).
I used a different dialup number (which was 1200 max) and it worked (without
any options). However, dropping down to 1200 defeats the purpose I am after
by using Zterm instead of Kermit. So, without changing anything, I logged back
on the 2400 number and nothing worked again.

Now, our unix has a method to see what mode you have dialed at. When typed, it
said that I was on MNP. I shut it off (the modem stats now say NORMAL) and
still it says MNP. My question is this:

I am sure that the MNP is my problem. Unix is a 7 bit dialup. Some have said
that Zterm needs 8 bits, but then, why would unix have the sz command and no
possible way to get on in 8 bits?

Once again, I could use any help with a) turning mnp off
				      b) something else that might work.

Thanks,
